White dog can take on many forms, often tasting like scotch or rye but without the vanilla, honey, or other sweet flavors from the wood. Troy Ball started her Western North Carolina distillery, Troy & Sons, when she moved to North Carolina from Texas in 2004 and was first exposed to moonshine. If the people who lived in the mountains liked you, they’d bring you homemade moonshine, but it was awful. She knew that she could do it better, so she did, using a local heritage corn to make a premium product. The former real estate developer has since lobbied to repeal several antiquated liquor bills in North Carolina.
